What was it like to be hit with gas in the First World War? It was a new weapon. Canadians didn’t even know what it was at first. Lester Stevens was with the 8th battalion in Ypres, Belgium. He always figured that what saved him was that he was a competitive swimmer. He held his breath, others didn’t.
