For more than 50 years now, Halifax has been sending a Christmas tree to Boston to thank the American city for its emergency aid and relief supplies sent north in the aftermath of the Halifax explosion of 1917. This year, the event was also held at the Canadian embassy in Washington, D.C., on Friday, where Prime Minister Mark Carney, along with colleagues and the FIFA 2026 team, lit the tree.
