Air Canada strike: Ottawa orders binding arbitration to resolve labour dispute
Description
August 16, 2025
Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu announced on Saturday that she has directed both parties in the labour dispute between Air Canada and the union representing flight attendants to resume their operations to maintain industrial peace and protect Canada’s economy. She urged the Canada Industrial Relations Board to facilitate a resolution by implementing final and binding arbitration, along with extending the current collective agreement until a new one is established.

Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu announced on Saturday that she has directed both parties in the labour dispute between Air Canada and the union representing flight attendants to resume their operations to maintain industrial peace and protect Canada’s economy. She urged the Canada Industrial Relations Board to facilitate a resolution by implementing final and binding arbitration, along with extending the current collective agreement until a new one is established.
