30,000 manufacturing jobs in Canada lost in April as Trump tariffs hit auto sector
Description
May 9, 2025
Statistics Canada data shows our economy added 7,400 jobs nationally in April with the federal election creating a slew of temporary positions which offset the more than 30,000 manufacturing jobs lost. Economists say the April jobs report illustrates how U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs are squeezing the automotive industry and throwing a proverbial wrench at the manufacturing sector. Anne Gaviola has the story.
