Nova Scotia’s Africville celebrates UNESCO designation

Africville was once a thriving Black community founded by former slaves who fled America for Halifax before city officials destroyed it in the 1960s. But now, UNESCO recognizes it as a place of international significance. Heidi Petracek looks back on Africville’s history, the celebration of the new designation, and what the Black community hopes will come out of the declaration.
