The International Court of Justice has delivered a much-anticipated ruling demanding Israel do more to contain the death and damage its military operation has brought to Gaza. The reaction to the ruling is widespread, including here in Canada where members of the Liberal government remain divided. The ruling may lack immediate practical consequences in Gaza but could ultimately hold deep historical resonance for people on all sides of the conflict. Crystal Goomansingh has more. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau previously said Canada is watching the case carefully and stands behind the international court. But despite today’s ruling, the federal government isn’t offering a clear stance toward the allegations against Israel. As Mackenzie Gray reports, that hasn’t stopped issues arising within the Liberal caucus itself.
