Winnipeg police Supt. Dave Dalal said in an update on Thursday that local authorities have been monitoring 235 events already this year so far, which he said was a “substantial draw” on police resources. Dalal requested the cooperation of counter-protest organizers to plan rallies at different locations or dates than initial protests to decrease tension, adding that the Winnipeg Police Service respects the right to freedom of expression and assembly, but that “physical and verbal abuse have no place at these events.”
