The Alberta government made a last-minute adjustment to a bill on citizen-initiated referendums, after the chief electoral officer warned it would impede his office's independence.

Tyler Shandro, the minister of justice and attorney general, introduced the Justice Statutes Amendment Act on Tuesday.
