Alberta’s wildfire season is fast approaching and the town of Banff is working to make sure crews are ready.

The fire destroyed the top floor and crews say water damage has left the house uninhabitable.

Investigators have determined that a fire at the Mount Royal Hotel in Banff was sparked when a propane torch came into contact with combustible materials.

Fire officials said out of the 135 rooms, 12 have been completely destroyed.

The fire chief in Banff said 256 guests were evacuated and relocated to other hotels. No one was injured in the ordeal.
