Pledge Day is a 13-hour live radiothon. On Friday, Dec. 1, we will broadcast from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 pm in the lobby of Corus Centre – home to 770 CHQR.

On this day, we will ask listeners to phone-in 403-974-8255, come by the 770 CHQR studios, or click here and make donations that will benefit kids-in-need throughout the Calgary area.

Pledge Day is focused on small, grassroots charities who are not able to hold massive fundraisers or manage sophisticated communications. Pledges of financial support are called in by 770 CHQR listeners, individuals, retailers and corporations for the Calgary Children’s Foundation (CCF).

Those who have raised funds for the CCF in the months prior to Pledge Day are welcome to present their cheques on-air. We also invite local celebrities and sports personalities to be a part of the radio program.

The foundation fills a unique void in our community; providing a safety net for children who might otherwise fall through the cracks.

Since 1992, the CCF has raised money for small but critically important charities that help physically, mentally, financially and socially challenged children to reach their full potential. Many of these charities do not have the means to fundraise for themselves or only need a small amount of money to make a big difference in a child’s life.

From a preschool that prepares neglected and abused children for Grade 1, to a summer camp for special needs children: these are some of the charities the foundation has given to in the past:

  • School-Based Mental Health Team
  • Pace Kids
  • EvenStart
  • Brown Bagging It for Calgary’s Kids
  • Janus Academy
  • Kids’ World Outreach Society
  • CASP ( Albert Park/Radisson Heights Community After School)
  • EvenStart for Children Society
  • GRIT (Getting Ready for Inclusion Today)
  • Inn From the Cold
  • Between Friends Club
  • AARC  (Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre)
  • Kids Up Front
  • Stardale Girls Aboriginal program
  • Northern Star Mother’s Milk Bank
  • STAR Youth Singers program
