It’s not as big a deal as it is south of the border, but some B.C. shoppers got an early start this morning, or stayed up late last night, to take advantage of some Black Friday specials.
It appears not as many people crossed the border into Bellingham as was expected as Target in Bellis Fair was not too crowded, but some did make the trek.
One shopper started her Black Friday excursion at 6 p.m. Thursday night and hadn’t stopped by 5 a.m. Friday morning.
“We’re going to keep going until 5, there’s a couple of stores we want to hit,” she says. “But I’m getting tired, I need food.”
Global BC reporter Grace Ke found one Victoria man, Todd Skelton, in Target in Bellis Fair who was waiting patiently for his wife to finish shopping.
“I couldn’t hover and I couldn’t complain,” he says of the rules his wife gave him for Black Friday shopping.

He bought two TVs and a sound bar, and says he saved about $250 but will still have to pay duty when he crosses the border.
According to a BMO survey about half of Canadians plan to take advantage of Black Friday, either south or north of the border.
It appeared to be a bit quieter in Vancouver however. At 5:23 this morning there were two people waiting outside the Future Shop on Granville and Robson Street.
David Valdez and Hamilton Tusiime say they expected a lot more people in the line. They had walked from East Vancouver and left their house at 3 a.m.
“It was great, got myself some new headphones, a new video game,” says Valdez after shopping.
“I got what I wanted so I’m happy,” says Tusiime.
