MONTREAL – David Abitbol, 28, who was charged with making threats on the Internet, possession of child pornography and improper storage of a firearm has been released on bail but must follow strict conditions.
He is to live with his parents, not have any access to the Internet, not have or make any weapons, stay away from gun clubs and obey a curfew.
Quebec Court Judge Robert Marchi also ordered Abitbol to see a psychiatrist and take any medication prescribed.
Marchi said he wasn’t impressed with the testimony of Abitbol’s father at his son’s bail hearing. Joseph Abitbol chocked up his son’s online threats to jokes and "minimized" the serious nature of the behaviour, the judge said.
But he added that the accused was lucky to have a mother that seemed to be upset by her son’s actions and was sincere when she said she would do everything necessary to see her son got help.
Abitbol is due back in court Nov. 24.
