Former funeral home operator charged with decades old assaults

LETHBRIDGE – Police have charged an 83-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting several young boys who worked for him between 1977 and 1986.

Police began investigating the allegations in August, after they were contacted by a man who said he was a victim of sexual assault while employed at Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels Limited.

Through the investigation, police identified three other people who allege they too were victims.

The four males ranged in age from 12 to 15 at the time of their alleged assaults, and all were employees at the funeral home at the time.

Police have charged Arthur Ernest Martin, also known as Dale Martin Sr. with four counts of indecent assault on a male and one count of sexual assault.

He is scheduled to appear in court on January 8, 2014.
