British Columbia’s financial picture is looking brighter and Finance Minister Mike de Jong says the province is still on track to balance the budget next year.

The second quarterly financial report released today shows slight improvements in budget surplus projections since the September update.

De Jong says the Finance Ministry is now forecasting a budget surplus of $165 million.

That projection is a $29-million improvement from September when the first quarterly report indicated an estimated surplus of $136 million.

The latest budget surplus forecast still remains below the $197 million surplus de Jong projected in his budget last February before the provincial election.

The minister says the current quarterly report shows revenue declining in natural resource and taxes, but increasing for commercial Crown corporations.
