Finishing touch on Bernard Ave gateway

KELOWNA– It’s a collaboration between the City of Kelowna and the Westbank First Nation.

The finishing touch was put on the Bernard Avenue Gateway Tuesday with the installation of banners designed by First Nation artist, Janine Lott.

The banners are situated at the east end of Bernard.  They feature five designs, three of which are repeated on the opposite side of the street.

At the reveal ceremony, Lott explained that each banner represents a story about First Nations people and their connection to the land.

Animals are featured prominently in the contemporary, artistic stories.

Lott was a mentor to emerging artist, Jordan Coble, who assisted on the project.

Lott was selected by a committee to design the banners.
