Kelowna man charged in 2012 Edmonton homicide

EDMONTON – Edmonton police have laid charges in the death of 28-year-old Philipp Jochen Woehrle, whose body was pulled from the rubble of a house fire on May 8, 2012.

Investigators found his body in the basement of a home on 117 Street and 129 Avenue.

On Tuesday, 38-year-old Thaven Philip Gardiner was arrested in Kelowna, B.C. in connection with Woehrle’s death. A cause of death was never released, however, Gardiner has been charged with first degree murder and damage by fire.

He is set to appear before a judge in B.C., where he will be remanded and then brought to Edmonton to answer to the charges.

Edmonton police are still investigating Woehrle’s death. They are asking anyone who may have information about the case to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
