Michelle Serdar has been charged for the 2011 murder of George Antone earlier today.
Antone, an elder with the Kwantlen First Nations Community, was shot in his home on the Fort Langley reserve in March of 2011. His body was discovered by a family member.
The 42-year-old Sedar was arrested in Quebec City on November 24 and will be appearing in court within the next week. No court date has been set.
Tumia Knott, a spokesperson from the Kwantlen First Nations Community, read a statement on behalf of the family and the Kwantlen First Nation at a press conference this morning. The statement included thanking the family and community of Kwantlen as well as the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team for their diligence in tracking down the suspect.
An excerpt from the statement said:
Our Kwantlen family and George’s family are strong and we are determined to stay strong and walk together through this.
Our thoughts are with George’s immediate family and our extended Kwantlen family.
We pray for justice and resolution.
