SIAST to become Saskatchewan Polytechnic

REGINA – SIAST is about to undergo a name change.

The Government of Saskatchewan introduced legislation on Thursday that will allow the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) to operate as a polytechnic institution.

Once passed, SIAST will be formally known as Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

It will allow the four campuses in the province to undertake applied research and scholarly activity along with giving students the chance to take new and innovative programs.

“These legislative changes will support our efforts to ensure Saskatchewan employers and students have access to industry-responsive technical education and applied research expertise, further economic and social prosperity,” said SIAST President and CEO Larry Rosia.

“We believe these changes will benefit both students and the school’s reputation across the country,” added Advanced Education Minister Rob Norris.

The change is expected to come in spring 2014.
