Judge rules Lady Gaga show promoted homosexuality, alcohol

TORONTO — A court in Russia has fined the promoters of a Lady Gaga concert for “propaganda of alcohol consumption and homosexuality.”

St. Petersburg court judge Olga Rositskaya ruled in favour of Nadezhda Petrova, who filed a complaint against Planeta Plus that her 13-year-old daughter was exposed to simulated sex between women during Gaga’s show last December.

Petrova also said the performance advocated for alcohol consumption.

The judge agreed that promoters had violated a portion of Russia’s law on the “protection of children from information that could harm their health and/or development.”

Though the fine is minimal — a little more than $600 — the verdict means Planeta Plus can be sued for causing trauma to the teenager.

The concert promoter has said it plans to appeal the decision.
