Canadians get lower priced quality smartphones

Finally, lower-priced phones for the Canadian masses! Not just affordable, but top-notch smartphones with the newest technology and all the goodies one would want. That’s what I talked about on today’s Global Edmonton Sunday Morning News.

Just in time for the holiday season, three new phones will be easy on your wallet and keep you current with the coolest smartphone trends.

The NEXUS 5 has power and the best of Google starting at $349 outright. supplied

The NEXUS 5 – $349/16 GB or $399/32GB direct from http://www.google.ca/nexus/5/ unlocked or Rogers $99 with plan. Developed by Google in partnership with LG, it has 2.2GHz Quad-Core processing power, and the brand new Android 4.4 KitKat OS which is full of smart surprises like using less memory so it will run on more phones. Its hands-free Voice Actions is most accurate, even in noisy environments…say “OK, Google” to find weather, directions or send text messages, hands free. In the new Hangouts app, all of your SMS and MMS messages are together in the same place, alongside your other conversations and video calls, so you’ll never miss a message. The 8 megapixel camera is above par with very simplistic and futuristic but effective controls. Of all the tier one Androids, NEXUS 5 the biggest bang for your buck.

HTC just released the HTC One mini – $99 at Rogers, just as cool-looking and easy to hold as its bigger the HTC ONE, with angled edges and a gentle rear curved back. The opening screen features a magazine-like BlinkFeed where all your news, features and sports are in one place. A unique feature, Zoe can slap a short music video together with cool edits from a group of photos and videos you take at one event and share it online. The BoomSound speakers are awesome for watching movies on the smaller but sharp HD screen. Its camera, like the HTC One, is great in all types of lighting conditions.

Motorola’s Moto-G rules with cool features for only $199 outright. supplied

The Motorola Moto-G – $200 outright (yes) at TELUS/Koobo is for the budget minded but has all the features, slightly watered down, of phones costing three times as much. It has an edge-to-edge 4.5” sharp HD display, Snapdragon quad-core chip, 4.3 Jelly Bean OS upgradable to KitKat early 2014 and 20 of the cool Moto App  features similar to its pricier sibling Moto-X.
