British Columbia has committed to matching all donations made by citizens to the Canadian Red Cross for Philippines typhoon relief, up to $300,000.
Around 100,000 British Columbians are of Filipino descent. Super Typhoon Haiyan has left more than 60,000 people displaced and approximately 2,500 dead.
“So many British Columbians have roots in the Philippines – family or friends the storm has left homeless, missing or waiting to be rescued. The provincial government will match every dollar British Columbians donate to the Canadian Red Cross – up to $300,000,” said Premier Christy Clark.
Donations can also be made online and at any BC Liquor Stores location.
