Serge LeClerc has resigned as MLA for Saskatoon Northwest, according to his lawyer, Richard Danyliuk.
The move comes four months after leaving the Saskatchewan Party government caucus over allegations of drug use.
Regina police announced in May they had wrapped up their investigation and no charges would be laid against LeClerc. But LeClerc has still been under investigation by the province’s conflict of interest commissioner, an independent officer of the provincial legislature.
LeClerc has denied the allegations of drug use.
Danyliuk said in an interview that LeClerc had chosen to resign now because his health had taken a turn for the worse.
LeClerc went on medical leave from the legislature after allegations arose when CBC received an information package that included transcripts from an Internet chat room between two men, one identified as LeClerc along with a recording of an individual who sounded like LeClerc referring to cocaine and marijuana use. The events allegedly occurred more than one year ago.
