HALIFAX – Four months after leaving Halifax, a Canadian rower has finished a historic transatlantic journey.
On Tuesday, Mylène Paquette became the first North American woman to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Around 6 a.m. AST, the 30-year-old reached the northwestern-most point of France, the island of Ouessant.
From Ouessant, Paquette’s 20-foot boat will be towed to Lorient in mainland France.
It has been a challenging trip for the Montrealer. Though her boat is self-righting, it capsized twice during storms. She also fought sea sickness for much of the trip.
Paquette reached France in 128 days; a month past her target of 100 days.
