EDMONTON – A roomful of Canada’s policing leaders in Edmonton will vote Monday on whether to adopt a national firearms policing strategy.
The strategy to be adopted by all police forces would outline policy standards on officer training, the operation of firearms and legislation.
The resolution stresses integration as key to fighting firearms-related crimes.
“The sharing of operational information and best practices between all police and public safety organizations, culimating in the development of consistent national standards, are necessary for effective response to firearms and related incidents,” states the draft resolution.
Members of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police are voting on the resolution Monday afternoon at their annual conference, being held in Edmonton this week.
