CALGARY – The province has announced plans to prevent future flooding by investing in erosion control and flood mitigation projects.

The Redford government says more than $37 million dollars has been allocated for seven Alberta communities.

Calgary, Medicine Hat, Canmore, High River, the Municipal District of Bighorn, Rocky View County, and Mountain View County will get new funding.

Money will be used to stabilize river banks, build berms and repair already damaged infrastructure.

“Dealing with erosion damage from June’s unprecedented floods is a priority and we will continue to work with flood-affected municipalities to determine needs and help them prepare for the future as we rebuild Alberta,” says Diana McQueen, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Resource Development.
