‘All clear’ given to re-open Grouse Grind after random stabbing Tuesday

The Grouse Grind has been re-opened after a man was stabbed on the popular hiking trail on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators say the 59-year-old was stabbed on the BC Mountaineering Trail (BCMC), which is a popular alternative to the Grouse Grind.

The victim was hiking down the trail at about 4 p.m., when at the halfway mark, he was met by an unknown man on the trail. Police say an unprovoked altercation occurred between the two men, which resulted in the victim being stabbed in the abdomen. The suspect is not known to the victim.

The attacker fled, leaving the victim to struggle down the mountain. He was met by other hikers who then called 911. The victim was transported to Lions Gate Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

No arrests have been made and the motive for the stabbing is unknown. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, late teens, slim build with dark short hair.
