For the next 4 months, 21 Global BC viewers are embarking on the Healthy Lifestyle Challenge. It’s not a weight-loss contest, nor is it a makeover show. We are challenging our participants to make the commitment to change their lives for the better – by eating better and exercising more. We will be helping them along the way, but they’re responsible for doing all the hard work on their own.
We’ll be monitoring their progress every month with a series of stories on the 6pm News Hour, and we’ll also be updating this blog everyday with advice and information from out team of experts so you can join in on the HLC, no matter where you live. And we encourage you to update us on your progress, by emailing lifestylechallenge@globaltv.com.
In consultations with the dietitians from St. Paul’s Healthy Heart Centre, we have placed our participants on one of 4 eating plans, which we will explore in more detail later this week:
- Glycemic Index Diet
- Weight Watchers
- President’s Choice Healthy Living meal plans
- www.Myfooddiary.com (online food tracking)
Personal trainers from Endorphin Junkies are putting our participants on exercise programs they will do at home on their own. As well, they will attend one group fitness class every week, led by the EJ trainers.
The HLC participants will meet with the dietitians once a month for a weigh-in and group consultation session. They’ll do the same with the trainers.
We want it to be as realistic as possible. That’s why there is no meal-delivery, no one-on-one personal training, and no competition. And we wanted the HLC to be accessible to everyone, even if they aren’t under our supervision.
