Family and friends pay tribute to Van Diest

ARMSTRONG — Over 100 people showed up to pay their respects to Taylor Van Diest, the 18 year old who was killed on Halloween 2011.

The somber anniversary began with a remembrance at the Armstrong museum.

After candles were lit, the 100 or so walked through town before stopping at the spot where her body was found on the train tracks. It is now a memorial site.

Friends and family say Van Diest was a bright enthusiastic girl full of life.

“We’re here to honour her radiant spirit, everyone who knew Taylor knew of her radiance, her beauty, her love of life, her zest of life,” said a family friend. ‘She had an incredible laugh and smile, she engaged everyone in her activities of life and joy of living.”

Twenty-eight year old Matthew Forester is accused of killing Van Diest, he’ll be tried for murder next March. His father Steven has also been charged as an accessory after the fact. There is no date yet for that trial.
