Rare spotted skunk dies after getting foot caught in trap

A rare spotted skunk, not seen in the Lower Mainland since the 1980’s, has died after it got its leg caught in a rat trap.

The skunk was brought into the Wildlife Rescue Association in Burnaby after a woman found the skunk in her basement and called them.

Sadly the injuries to the skunk’s leg were too severe and it had to be put down after it developed gangrene.

The Wildlife Association says not to put out rat traps as other animals may get their legs caught in them.
