Krydor residents in disbelief after discovery of human remains

KRYDOR, Sask. – Cynthia Rao has lived in Krydor for the past nine years, but news that human remains were found on Monday at her next door neighbour’s property, has shaken her to the core.

“You would’ve never seen it coming. Who knew? We lived here for a year after he was buried and had no idea. Nobody heard anything. Nobody saw anything,” she told Global News.

Blaine Lake RCMP believe the remains are that of 70-year-old Arnoldo Rey Sr. The Chilean-born man moved to Canada in the 1980s.

His son, 42-year-old Arnoldo David Rey, has been charged with second degree murder and offering an indignity to a dead human body.

“We have a very strong indication that it is the remains of Mr. Rey Sr. Information we received during the investigation led us to that understanding and led us to that property,” said Sgt. John Redlich with Blaine Lake RCMP.

Police said family members filed a missing persons report on May 28, 2013. An earlier RCMP release indicated the elderly man fell out of touch with friends and family in November 2012.

“They did tell us that he had gone missing before, that he had gone on extended trips. He did travel from Chile from time to time,” said Redlich.

RCMP believe Rey Sr. was killed on July 26, 2012 and his body remained concealed beneath a plot of land neighbours have suggested was his greenhouse.

Arnoldo David Rey has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Nov. 12 in Saskatoon.

Police say it may take weeks before an autopsy is completed.
