EDMONTON – Premier Alison Redford says she is ready to outline the priorities for her government’s fall sitting at the Alberta legislature in a speech to the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce Monday.

Redford will talk about what the session has in store, which includes the introduction of a number of bills. A spokesperson for the premier’s office said Sunday the government plans to introduce legislation that, if passed, will help reduce commute times and grow Alberta’s economy.

“The legislation would give the province the ability to respond to local needs and designate lane use such as creation of priority bus lanes, car pool lanes, and slow moving vehicles. It would allow the province to work with municipalities to improve traffic flow and get families and industry where they need to go more safely and more quickly,” Neala Barton said in an emailed statement.

“All Albertans benefit from a safe and efficient transportation system that enables market access, supports a strong economy, and serves a growing population.”

Barton said the sitting will also see legislation to implement new rules that would ensure Albertans are better protected from future floods, after tens of thousands of Albertans were displaced by the devastating June floods that caused billions of dollars damage in southern Alberta. The legislation is part of the government’s continued implementation of the Building Alberta Plan.

Caucus will gather for a meeting prior to Redford’s speech Monday.
