UPDATE: IHIT identifies victim of fatal shooting in Surrey

UPDATE:  Police have identified the victim as 35-year-old Satwant Singh Bains. Police say Bains did not possess a criminal record and was not known to police, but the killing was not random. Investigators continue to look for the motive. Witnesses told police a white 4-door sedan sped off westbound on 86 Avenue towards 152 Street at the time of the incident. It happened near 86th Avenue and 156th Street shortly after 5 a.m.

When police arrived, they found a deceased man inside his car in the driveway.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says they have identified the victim, but are not releasing his name until the family is notified.

Neighbours told Global News they heard three to four shots in the morning hours, and saw a white vehicle fleeing the scene. But, investigators can’t confirm those details.

Pound says the victim does not have a criminal record, and the motive of the shooting is unclear.

The homicide investigation team will be on the scene working with the RCMP and forensic investigators for the remainder of the day.

They will be processing the evidence and looking to speak with any witnesses.
