The fiance of Jones’ sister said he believes the attack occurred because Jones is gay, but police said they have no evidence to indicate it was a hate crime, though they are still investigating.

Police arrested 19-year-old Shane Edward Matheson for the attack. He faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
