Vacant Winnipeg duplex goes up in flames Monday morning

A vacant two-storey duplex on Lily Street went up in flames Monday morning – Oct 31, 2022

A vacant home on Lily Street is a complete loss after going up in flames and will be demolished after burning for much of Monday.

Platoon chief Ted McDougall said the blaze, which broke out in the two-storey duplex just before 5 a.m.

“It’s probably close to 80 years old or so, but it’s been boarded up for a couple of years,” he said.

“I know there’s been lots of talk about vacant buildings and whatnot in the city, and this is certainly one of them that has been an ongoing issue.”

The city says it is at risk of collapse and will be brought down by heavy machinery.

There’s still no word on the cause of the fire, although no injuries have been reported.
