EDMONTON – The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Canine Unit will be hosting a public appreciation and education event on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Hawrelak Park.

“We want to say thank you to the public directly for all the support they have shown to the Canine Unit,” said Staff Sgt. Troy Carriere.

“It means a lot to us, especially in the last few weeks following Quanto’s death.”

Edmonton PSD Quanto died after allegedly being stabbed during a suspect pursuit on Oct. 7.

Several Canine Unit officers and their Police Service Dogs will be at Hawrelak Park between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to meet with the public, talk about the work they do and perform obedience demonstrations with their dogs.

Sarge was the first Police Service Dog with the EPS in 1963 and the Canine Unit was officially formed in 1967.
