HALIFAX – The Crown in Nova Scotia says former NDP cabinet minister Percy Paris has completed an adult diversion program after he was charged with assault, and a judge presiding over the case has accepted that.
Paris was charged after Liberal member Keith Colwell was allegedly assaulted on May 9 in a washroom at the provincial legislature.
A provincial court judge agreed in July to send the case to an adult diversion program, which is intended to resolve matters outside the court system.
At the time, Crown attorney Denise Smith said the program is open to those charged with minor criminal offences.
By taking part in the program, Smith said the accused must accept responsibility for the offence.
Paris lost his seat in the Halifax-area riding of Waverley-Fall River-Beaver Bank to Liberal Bill Horne in the Oct. 8 provincial election.
