Possible ring road deal on the horizon

The Tsuu T’ina Nation will vote Thursday on a proposed southwest ring road deal, although neither the nation nor the province will give details on what exactly it entails.

In 2009, the First Nation voted down a previous cash and land swap deal.

The current offer is thought to be much the same, except more money is on the table.

That’s according to Alberta’s transportation minister, who says he’s hopeful this is the right deal.

“We’re hoping that the agreement that the chief and council has put to the decision of the Tsuu T’ina people that they choose to say yes, we do approve that agreement,” said Ric McIver.

The vote results are expected to be released Friday afternoon.

If the project is approved, the province says it could take between three weeks and three years to approve the route.
