Edmonton firefighters battle southeast fire at construction site for new home

WATCH ABOVE: Firefighters were called the area of 17 Avenue and 19 Street in southeast Edmonton Tuesday morning for a blaze at a construction site where new homes were being built. This is the scene from the Global 1 News helicopter – Oct 11, 2022

Edmonton fire crews were called to a structure fire in the southeast early Tuesday.

Calls to 911 came from neighbours just before 6 a.m. to the area of 18 Avenue and 18 Street with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services arriving moments later. Additional units were brought in due to the size of the fire.

EFRS said the fire began at a home under construction. Firefighters were working to contain the fire from spreading to nearby homes and had it under control by 6:20 a.m.

No injuries had been reported and a fire investigator is expected to visit the scene.

As of 8 a.m., EFRS said three homes that were all unoccupied and under construction were damaged during the blaze. In an emailed statement sent to media, EFRS said they’re awaiting confirmation on whether additional homes were affected.
