In a tweet, Peel Regional Police said they were called to the area of Mavis Road and Britannia Road on Monday evening at around 6 p.m. for reports a man and a woman had been injured.

Police said a female victim was pronounced dead at the scene and a man was taken into custody. The man was taken to a local hospital with a minor injury, according to police.

At a briefing outside the Canadian Tire where the incident occurred, Const. Philip Yake said the investigation was in “its infancy.”

He said, when officers arrived at the scene, both the man and the woman were inside the store.

The female victim showed “obvious signs of trauma” and the man was arrested inside before being escorted out by police, he said.
