VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Whitecaps have unveiled a new mountain-and-water-imaged logo that will become the team’s marketing brand for its entry into Major League Soccer next year.
The logo features three peaks, representing the North Shore mountains, sitting above the club’s name in white and reflecting down on the city’s waterfront, below the club name.
The water colour on the logo’s lower half is "Whitecaps blue," which pays tribute to the main colour on the club’s logo worn during the team’s 1979 Soccer Bowl championship season.
Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi said it took more than a year to develop the logo and team owner Greg Kerfoot was heavily involved in the process.
The team also announced it has already sold deposits for 10,000 season tickets next year and the next phase of season ticket sales will begin Saturday, with the total number of sales to be capped at 16,500.
Season ticket prices will start at $319 and will include at least 17 matches throughout the 2011 season.
