The southbound lane of Highway 5 near Merritt was closed Monday morning due to a vehicle incident.
Drive BC said that the closure between Hope and Merritt ran for 9.7 kilometres and that a detour was available.
Cpl. Mike Halskov from BC Highway patrol said the crash happened just after 6 a.m. Monday morning and there is one confirmed death from the crash.

“There was a broken down truck on the side of the highway, it was mostly off the road, and it was rear-ended by another semi coming along,” he said.
The driver of the truck that had been pulled over went out the front window upon impact and the driver was also injured.
