White Pages no longer available in Calgary, unless you ask

CALGARY – Residential phone directories are now available only upon request in major Canadian cities, including Calgary.

Yellow Pages Group, Canada’s largest printer, online and mobile directory provider, made the announcement Thursday after a pilot project done in selected cities found demand for the traditional white pages has plummeted in recent years with most Canadians choosing to find numbers online.

Other affected cities include Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton, the Ottawa-Gatineau area and Quebec City.

"An increasing number of Canadians, particularly in urban areas, use our online and mobile resources to find residential phone numbers," said Marc Tellier, president and CEO of Yellow Pages Group.

"Our priority with the residential directory is to make listings available to all users in the format of their choice."

Tellier added the change will benefit the environment, and the company in its ability to target only those few homes that will still want to order white pages.

Yellow pages, still used by 1 in every 2 Canadians to find a business, will still arrive at Canadian homes this fall with information on how to order residential white pages if you still want them.
