The Canucks opened their seven-game road trip with a win, coming from behind in the third period to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2.

Ryan Kesler scored his second goal of the game with 2:25 left in the third period, batting down a rebound into the left side of the net and giving Vancouver their first lead of the game. It was his third goal of the year.

It was Vancouver’s second goal in a third period that began with the Canucks down 2-1. Chris Higgins scored his first goal of the season 7:31 into the frame, off a quick behind-the-net pass from Henrik Sedin.

Both Flyer goals were scored by rookie Tye McGinn. Roberto Luongo made 20 saves for the Canucks, while his counterpart Steve Mason made 22.

Each team struggled to generate offence. The Canucks failed to crack 20 shots until midway through the third and the Flyers didn’t attempt their 20th until the final minutes. The Flyers again failed to score a power-play goal, and their special teams unit ranks among the worst in the league.

The win moves the Canucks to 4-3 early on in the season, while the Flyers fell to 1-3 under coach Craig Berube and 1-6 on the season.
