Deadline to register banned pets Tuesday

Venomous snakes are banned under the new Winnipeg pet bylaw.

WINNIPEG – Owners of animals prohibited under the new responsible pet ownership bylaw must register them by Tuesday in order to legally keep them within city limits.

The city passed the new bylaw in July with a clause that allowed pet owners who already own newly banned animals to apply for a permit within 90 days.

After Tuesday, anyone wanting to legally keep a prohibited animal in the city must apply for a special permit.

To register an animal that was previously allowed but is now prohibited, an application form with a photo of the animal must be delivered in person to 1057 Logan Ave., by mail to the same address (postal code R3E 3N8), by emailing 311@winnipeg.ca or by faxing 311.
