CALGARY – Members of a local hockey team worked up a Thanksgiving appetite on Monday by volunteering at a northwest school.
The Bow River Bruins spent the day laying new sod at Tuscany School.
The school couldn’t afford to pay for new landscaping in their playground, forcing students to play in dirty and dusty conditions.
“There [were] mud puddles here,” says School Council President Nkechi Seale.”Kids were riding their bikes through it. There was mud all over their clothes. And if it wasn’t muddy, then it was just dust and dirt in their hair and flying in their eyes. It was amazing how bad it was.”
Many of the bantam players attended the school when they were younger, and jumped at the chance to help out.

Tuscany School’s parent council held a fundraiser to pay for new sod. They came up a bit short and wouldn’t have been able to finance it, so JBR Landscaping gave it to them at half price.
The Bow River Bruins put down about 30 pallets on Monday, giving students at Tuscany School plenty to be thankful for.
