Some long-awaited new double-decker train cars will be introduced on the busy Dorion-Rigaud commuter line today, the same day the Agence métropolitaine de transport holds a public meeting for users of that line.
The cars, which can accommodate more passengers and will replace older cars, will increase capacity on the line by 40 per cent, the AMT said. The cars are more comfortable and expected to be more reliable than the aging fleet.

Eight new cars are to be added to the Dorion/Rigaud line today. Sixteen more are to to come by the end of the summer, and another 53 new cars in the fall.
The AMT will hold a public meeting tonight for Dorion/ Rigaud users. AMT chief executive Joël Gauthier is expected to be there to field questions, comments and complaints. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Noël Legault Community Centre, 245 Lakeshore Blvd. in Pointe Claire.
Dorion/Rigaud is the AMT’s second-busiest line, used by 16,000 people daily.
The AMT ordered 160 new train cars from Bombardier in 2007 at a cost of $386 million. So far, 30 are in service, all on Mont St. Hilaire. The St. Jérôme/Blainville line will get new cars this summer, Delson/Candiac in the fall.
The Deux Montagnes line will also receive some new cars, but only after the AMT starts receiving new dual-mode (diesel/electric) locomotives in 2012.
