MONTREAL – Mayoral candidate Marcel Côté has apologized for playing rough with opponent Richard Bergeron.
Nearly 1,000 illegal automated calls were made by a company his party hired, attacking Bergeron.

Election rules state that calls like these must clearly identify who is paying for them, in this case they didn’t.
The phone messages made references to the questionable financing of fruit and vegetable stand in the Plateau borough and its connection to Projet Montreal.
Côté says the robocalls should have been double checked first.
