CALGARY- A brand new mobile voting system is proving to be a hit.
The pilot project is a ‘vote bus’ that stops at LRT stations throughout Calgary, for a few hours in the morning and afternoon. There is an advance polling station on board, so those who are in a hurry can still do their civic duty.
“It’s a great idea. It’s quick, fast and you’re in and out right,” said one voter.

Another added, “it’s handy if you need to commute and you can’t get to the school and you can’t get to the school or the other polling stations in time.”
If the advance poll numbers are any indication, the plan is already proving popular. On day one, more than 4,000 votes came in, including 400 from the vote bus. Mayor Naheed Nenshi was one of them, casting his ballot at the Brentwood LRT station.
“It’s a pilot project, we’re assuming if this is successful it will be expanded to the next election,” says presiding deputy returning officer Rob Whitworth.
The bus won’t run over the long weekend, but regular advance polling stations will be open across the city.
