Two vehicles collided at a highway intersection about 50 kilometres northwest of Edmonton on Thursday.
The crash happened at Highway 44 and Highway 642 at about 11 a.m.
Morinville RCMP said a car crossed the centre line, colliding head-on with a Jeep.
One person died in the crash, RCMP said. It was the driver of — and only person inside — the car: an 85-year-old woman from Edmonton.
There were two people in the Jeep. One person was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries. The second person was taken to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance with serious injuries.
Highway 44 at Highway 642 was closed for several hours and traffic was rerouted.
As of 4:45 p.m., the highway was clear and open to traffic.
