Chilliwack man suffers minor injuries after his car explodes in driveway

A Chilliwack man suffered minor burns after his car exploded in his driveway.

RCMP were called to a home on Riverside Drive on Saturday night. They say the vehicle owner was leaving his driveway when his car exploded and caught fire.

He was the only one in the vehicle at the time of the explosion. He was treated in hospital for superficial burns and released.

At first, police believed the explosion may have been a criminal act. Nearby residents were evacuated and the explosives disposal unit was called in. RCMP now say that the explosion was not caused by a criminal act, but possibly a leaking fuel line.

The vehicle is being inspected by a mechanic to determine the cause.
